Over the next few months, we'll be working on an exciting new motorcycle racing game and music discovery service called Blue Groove Racer. Blue Groove Racer is a futuristic motorcycle racing game that helps promote new and unsigned artists and have their songs directly inserted into the game. For the first time ever, there will be a game that mixes on the fly racing with up and coming bands!
It's a game where the player can pick any song from their music library (or from one of our featured indie bands) and we extract the notes from the song, place them on a futuristic race track think TRON), and they race down the track collecting the notes while avoiding obstacles and listening to the music. Think of this game (BGR) as a cross between Rock Band / Guitar Hero and our favorite racing game, only on a motorcycle.
Since every song is different (ie: different notes, beat, etc), every track is completely and randomly different, thereby giving the player a completely different game experience each time. Player will be able to customize their motorcycle (lighter, faster, etc) as well as their equipment such as jackets and helmets which could help them improve their score in the game. Once a player gets a high score at a song, they can then challenge their friends to beat them at that song. Blue Groove Racer works with any Genre, thereby appealing to a large audience of players.
We're located in Austin, Texas, home of SXSW (South by Southwest) and ACL (Austin City Limits) and the Captivate Conference. Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World and we're excited to have a new way to help many of our own local bands get discovered.
In addition, we're extremely honored to be working with Barry Lyons of Rent A Label to help indie bands get the word out about their awesome music. Barry Lyons served as a senior executive in promotion departments at IRS Records, Chameleon, Giant, Polydor, Island and Sire/London before launching RENT A LABEL in January 2000. As such he played a key role in campaigns for artists such as R.E.M., Concrete Blonde, Fine Young Cannibals, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Rammstein, Van Morrison and others. Since starting RENT A LABEL, that experience has helped fuel campaigns for Ozzie Osborne, Def Leppard, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Shadows Fall, Lacuna Coil, Queensryche, Tony Iommi, Peter Frampton, and many others.
SnakeHead Software will be documenting the creative process and releasing regular updates exclusively to the backers, some of which will be videos. These videos will be designed to make the viewer as much a part of the process as possible by showing a game grow from where it is now, to the finish line, with all the passion, humor, and heartbreak that happens along the way. SnakeHead is committed to total transparency with this project.
There will be a private online community set up for the backers to discuss the project with the SnakeHead Team and submit their thoughts and feelings about the game's content and direction, sometimes even voting on decisions when the SnakeHead team can't decide. Depending on your chosen reward level, backers will also have access to help test the game once a beta is available. Once the game is finished, backers will receive the completed version in the available format of their choice (iOS and/or Android) plus whatever other rewards they're entitled to based upon their reward level.
Let's do it together!
Let's face it, great games cost a lot of money, and even something as "simple" as an Xbox LIVE Arcade title can cost upwards of two or three million dollars. Crowd-sourced fundraising sites like r allow consumers to support the games they want to see developed and give the developers the freedom to experiment, take risks, and design without anyone else compromising their vision. t's the kind of creative luxury that most major, established studios simply can't afford. At least, not until now.
For fans of racing games, this is a chance to take racing to the next level. For fans of indie music, it's a chance to help artists spread the word about their awesome music which otherwise may go completely unnoticed. In this mix of music and racking, we're able to create an incredibly addictive, highly engaging experience for all players, young or old, male or female. We just don’t know of any other app out there quite like it - and we’re counting on you to help us make this game happen! Help us to help you to “Get Your Groove On!”
